Find your starting piece
Choose something you expect to keep: bedding, a rug, a print, or even a well-loved chair. Notice its main colors and the smaller details. Your starting point does not need to be expensive or dramatic; it only needs to feel like something you enjoy living with.
Give each color a role
Try using one color as the quiet background, another in a larger textile, and a smaller accent in a detail. Treat that arrangement as an experiment. The goal is to make choices easier, not to follow an exact formula for every room.
Look at it in your own light
Bring fabrics and any color samples into the room before making a decision. Look in daylight and under the lighting you use in the evening. Place samples beside the furniture and flooring that will stay so you can judge the whole combination.
Change the easiest layer first
Try rearranging a throw, changing a pillow cover you already have, or bringing in artwork from another room. Keep the bed comfortable and the surfaces useful. You may find that a small adjustment is enough to connect the things you already like.
A personal palette begins with something you want to keep.
